Yann Delcambre Honored Internationally: French Fire Photography in the Spotlight

Yann Delcambre, an active member of the BCC association, has once again made waves in the world of Fire Photography, receiving a major international award at the 35AWARDS contest.

His work was ranked among the Top 10 best photos out of 4,998 submissions, from 1,526 participants representing 85 countries. He was also named one of the top photographers in this Fire-themed edition.

Yann Delcambre Fire Photography Award

Most of his iconic images were shot at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, a location he has turned into a nighttime studio for fire and light experimentation. This award could be the perfect opportunity to propose an exhibition of his work there.

Light in the Dark: Faith, Technique, and Creativity

What first drew Yann to Fire Photography was the light in darkness, the technical complexity, and the human richness of the fire arts community. He describes the practice as an act of faith: “We live in a hyper-controlled world. Fire Photography requires faith. You can’t know immediately if your photo worked — you have to trust your eye.”

Though fire photography traces can be found in the 1980s, especially around Beaubourg, the discipline truly took shape in the early 2000s. For Yann, “everything is still to be invented or reinvented.”

A Discreet but Dedicated Artist

Yann doesn’t chase gallery spots — he prefers deep artistic exploration. He’s currently seeking a safe location in the Paris area to work with fire and store his equipment.

He also dreams of meeting the fire art communities in the United States and Japan — where events like the Hi-Matsuri reflect a sacred and ancestral relationship with fire.

Passing on the Flame

In 2023, Yann co-led a Fire Photography masterclass with Andrey Das, combining history, safety protocols, artistic direction, and personalized camera settings. His goal wasn’t to provide a fixed method, but to help each participant grow in confidence and technical independence.

Due to the positive response, a new edition of the masterclass is planned for late October 2025.

Spreading Fire Art Worldwide

Yann Delcambre is now recognized as one of the leading voices of Fire Photography on an international level. His work bridges the gap between performance art, light aesthetics, and contemporary photography — inspiring a new generation of visual artists drawn to flame.
